SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Thad Dahl Scholarship Program:

The King County Fire Training Officer's Association Scholarship Program is available to eligible candidates.

About the Program:

The program was first established in June of 2003 with the intent to provide an opportunity to selected fire fighter applicants who otherwise would not be afforded this level of education. This program is intended to model the commitment and dedication demonstrated by Fire Training Officer Thad Dahl.

Eligibility:

This scholarship is open only to United States Citizens who reside in the State of Washington, and are affiliated with the fire service by providing volunteer service a minimum of one (1) year to a community, and/or fully employed by a fire department. Preference will be given to applicants in the priority below:

  • To Fire Departments within King County who are current Active Members of KCFTOA
  • To Fire Departments outside King County who are current Associate Members of KCFTOA
  • To Fire Departments within King County who are not a member of KCFTOA<
  • To Fire Departments outside King County who are not a member of KCFTOA

To qualify for awards, candidates must have graduated from High School, or completed a GED. Candidates shall demonstrate the ability to attend 50% of the scheduled classes in each year. Course work shall be completed within twenty-four (24) months of receipt of the award. Candidates must also possess a valid Washington State Driver's License.

Value:

King County Fire Training Officers Association tuition fees ONLY will be provided for the following courses:

  • Officers Development Academy (ODA)
  • Extrication Academy
  • Pump Operator Academy
  • Truck Academy

Travel, accommodations text books or other administrative or testing fees are NOT covered.

Number of Awards: Scholarships are awarded up to the designated annual budgeted amount of each year. $5,500 (2014)

Application Process : The application form is available on this site. Complete the form and fax to (425.749.7274) scan and email to cindy@kcftoa.org, or mail to PO Box 4341, Everett WA 98204-0035 along with the departmentsendorsement information.

The deadline for applications is a minimum of three (3) weeks prior to the Academy, except for full ODA Academy which is February 1 of that year. Be sure to register for your classes/academy online as receipt of the scholarship does not reserve nor guarantee a spot in the class. Under the PO or payment field indicate "Scholarship Pending". You will receive notification of acceptance or denial via email as soon as possible prior to the class in which you applied.
